Today the education system, not only in India, but in all the countries, has taken a wrong turn.

The main objectives of the study were to assess the ASHAs’ job performance, their perception regarding roles and responsibilities and problems experienced by them. Both quantitative and qualitative approach with a descriptive exploratory research design was adopted for the research study. 83 ASHAs working in selected PHCs of rural area of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, were selected by total enumeration sampling technique. Record analysis (rating scale), structured questionnaire, structured interview schedule and semi-structured interview schedule were prepared to collect the data. The findings of the study revealed that majority of ASHAs (67.7%) were having fair performance and 57.83% had moderately favorable perception regarding their roles and responsibilities. Regarding their problems, 68.67% of ASHAs were not satisfied with their performance-based incentives, 50.61% of them reported that they faced difficulty in getting their honorarium, 65.06% reported that they were overloaded with work. The study concluded that majority of ASHAs were performing their job well and most of them had favorable perception of their roles and responsibilities but less incentives and overwork can impact negatively on their performance. The ASHAs expressed inadequate remuneration for their work, which can have impact on their performance in the long run.

Central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSIs) are common hospitalacquired infections with reported mortality of 12-25%. The use of antibiotics and strict aseptic technique can significantly reduce the rate of infection. Adequate knowledge on prevention of CLABSI among staff nurses can halt the incidences to a significant level. Therefore, the investigators felt a real need to assess the staff nurses’ knowledge regarding CLABSI. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge of staff nurses regarding CLABSI in a selected hospital and to develop and disseminate an information booklet on care of patient with central line. The research approach adopted for the study was quantitative approach and the research design was descriptive survey design. The tool for data collection was a structured knowledge questionnaire and 50 staff nurses working in HAHC Hospital, New Delhi, were selected using convenientsampling technique. The findings of the study concluded that majority (96%) of staff nurses had inadequate knowledge and only 4% had adequate knowledge. Thus it can be concluded that most of the staff nurses of HAHC Hospital have inadequate knowledge regarding CLABSI.

A study to assess the knowledge and practices on universal precautions among staff nurses in a selected hospital of New Delhi. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge of universal precautions and to assess the practices of universal precautions. A total of 50 samples were selected from different wards ofHAHC Hospital by convenient sampling techniques. A structured knowledge questionnaire and structured check list were used for data collection to assess knowledge and practices on universal precaution among staff nurses. A descriptive survey design was adopted. Result showed that most of the staff nurses, i.e., 60% were having average knowledge about the universal precautions, whereas 24% staff nurses were having good knowledge and only 8% were having poor knowledge. Result showed that most of the staff nurses (54%) were having average practice and 46% were having good practice about hand washing practice. Result showed that most of the staff nurses (76%) were having good practice and 24% were having average practice about biomedical waste management practice. Result showed that most of the staff nurses (56%) were having average practice, 38% were having good practice and 6% were having poor practice, about needle stick injury practice. The study concluded that the knowledge and practice regarding universal precautions should be improved among staff nurses by incorporating in-service training. Protocol regarding universal precaution should be followed meticulously in all departments of the hospital.

Purpose:The objective of the study was to assess the knowledge of 12 th standard students related to HIV/ AIDS and its prevention in a selected school of New Delhi. Methods: The research approach adopted for the study was quantitative research approach and research design was descriptive survey design. The tool developed for data collection was structured knowledge questionnaire. The sample consisted of 50 students of Hamdard Public School, New Delhi. The data was collected through structured knowledge questionnaire and analysis was done using descriptive statistics. Results: It was found that equal number of students, i.e., 50% each had adequate and inadequate knowledge regarding the prevention of HIV/ AIDS. Mass media (48%) was found to be playing a major role in disseminating the information towards HIV/ AIDS followed by teachers (24%). Family members (4%) and health professionals (10%) were source of information for a relatively small percentage of students. Conclusion: It was found that students of 12th standard of Hamdard Public School had adequate knowledge regarding HIV/ AIDS and its prevention. It is also suggested to organize more awareness programs toward HIV/AIDS through mass media to fill the gaps in knowledge and thus to reduce the incidence.

Introduction: Patient’s satisfaction has been strongly advocated by nursing professionals to be an important indicator of quality of nursing care delivery. Patient satisfaction remains an important concept for health care providers. Patient satisfaction functions as a precondition for quality care. It is seen that more satisfied patients will cooperate more effectively and show a greater compliance and often recover. Methodology: A comparative study was undertaken to assess the level of satisfaction with nursing care given by female and male staff nurses among the patients admitted in a selected hospital of New Delhi. Research approach used for the study was quantitative non-experimental research approach. The research design was descriptive survey. A structured interview schedule to assess the level of satisfaction of patient with the nursing care given by female and male staff nurses was used. The sample comprised 30 patients admitted in the medical, surgical and general wards of Max Super Specialty Hospital, Vaishali, New Delhi. Results: The study findings revealed that mean score of the level of patients’ satisfaction was more (53.83) on nursing care given by female nurses than the male nurses (50.96). It is also found that maximum (76.66%) patients had high satisfaction with nursing care given by female nurses than the male nurses (60%). Conclusion: Patients were highly satisfied with the nursing care aspect of the male staff nurses whereas with respect to female staff nurses, highest satisfaction was seen in nursing behavior. However, the patients were least satisfied by the orientation aspect of nursing care given by both male and female staff nurses.

Introduction: Pregnancy is the sensational journey of women toward motherhood. Pain in labor is nearly universal experience for the child bearing women. Olive oil back massage stimulates the body to release endorphins, which are having natural painkilling properties. Objectives: (i) To assess the level of labor pain of primigravida mother in experimental group before and after olive oil back massage during first stage of labor. (ii) To determine the level of labor pain of primigravida mother in control group. (iii) To compare the level of labor pain among primigravida mothers in experimental group and control group. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with purposive non-probability sampling technique is used for the sample. Study was conducted on 60 samples (30 in experimental group and 30 in control group). A structured interview schedule, labor assessment proforma, numerical pain-rating scale was used for data collection and the data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Results revealed that there was less pain score in experimental group after the olive oil back massage as compared to mothers who had not received olive oil back massage in control group. Conclusion: Results confirmed that the olive oil back massage is significantly effective in reducing labor pain during first stage of labor.

A pre-experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of videoassisted teaching on knowledge and practice regarding burping among 30 primi mothers selected through purposive sampling technique. One-group pretestposttest design was used. Conceptual framework was based on Nola J Pender Health promotion model. The data were collected using socio-demographic proforma, structured knowledge questionnaire and observation checklist. Pretest was conducted on second postpartum day and posttest was conducted on the sixth postpartum day. The mean posttest knowledge score was 14.87 with SD 1.98 which was significantly higher than the mean pretest score 9.7 with SD 2.35 with a mean difference of 5.17. The mean posttest practice score was 22.07 with SD 2.59 which was significantly higher than the mean pretest score 12.9 with SD 2.52 with a mean difference of 9.17. The study concluded that the video-assisted teaching was effective in improving knowledge and practice among primi mothers regarding burping. The calculated correlation coefficient 0.605 was greater than the table value (0.44) with degrees of freedom 29 at 0.01 level of significance showed that there was a positive correlation between knowledge and practice

Introduction: The 6th MDG indicator aims to turn around the HIV/ AIDS epidemic by 2015. Every HIV-positive patient is a potential candidate for disease transmission to health-care workers, amongst whom nursing personnel are at an increased risk and threat of accidental transmission on coming in close contact with blood & body fluids. To reduce transmission, adequate knowledge about the disease and practice of safety measures are of great importance. This study has been done to assess the awareness about HIV/ AIDS and identify the gaps. Methodology: The study was done from Dec 2014 to March 2015, in 3 medical colleges of Bhubaneswar-KIMS & PBM, IMS & SUM, Hi-tech Medical College & Hospital. The purpose of the study was explained; and consent taken by the participants. A pre-tested predesigned self-administered questionnaire was used. Personnel’s providing health services to patients with HIV/ AIDS for at least a year were included (n=206). The questionnaire elicited details regarding socio-demographics (age, sex, education, type of service, length of time working), provision of care to pregnant women, training in prevention of parent-to-child transmission (PPTCT), and general knowledge regarding HIV/ AIDS. The data was entered in Microsoft Excel, and was analyzed using EpiInfo. Results: Of the total 206 participants, questionnaires that were completely filled were included. 14 proformas were excluded since they were incomplete; 94.8% of the participants were females. 46.35% of the participants were in the age group of 30-40 years.

Estimating the number of individual swine flu cases is very challenging because many people with flu do not seek medical care and only a small number of those that do seek care are tested. The objective of the study was to assess the knowledge of student nurses regarding prevention of swine flu and to enhance their knowledge by disseminating an information booklet to the students of a selected nursing college. A total of 100 students were selected for the study from Rufaida College of Nursing by convenience sampling technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of student nurses. A descriptive survey design was adopted. Majority of students (72%) had inadequate knowledge aboutswine flu. There is a need to disseminate proper information to the public on the status of the H1N1 virus and to achieve a broad awareness of the potential risks and the optimum code of behavior during the pandemic.
